Amazed with Freedom At Last!

This book is proving to be the most helpful tool in my toolbox right now in my daily struggle against rage and destructive behaviors. Simply put, this is quite possibly the most helpful thing I've ever had in my life in order to put real practices in place on a daily basis against anger. I am being immensely blessed every time I pick it up. It's enabling me to find freedom from nearly 35 years of pain, rage, torment, abuse, etc. I'm very thankful for the author's honest and real life examples. This book is a God send and the best tool I've found yet to date for men who struggle with Anger. Trust me; no counselor has yet done for me what this book is doing for me in the area of anger and rage. A big thank you goes out to the Author, and I tip my hat to his honesty, expertise, and his seeming ability to speak directly to the hearts of men.

Men, let's be honest with ourselves. We may not believe we have "anger issues" in need of an intervention, but I submit we have all displayed our anger inappropriately at times. If you want to understand your anger and the consequences of toxic anger on your mind, body and spirit, read this book. This book by Bill Perkins is witty and cuts through the lies we tend to tell ourselves about ourselves. Want to deal with your pride correctly? Read this book. Want to know how uncontrolled anger can turn explosive and ruin your relationships? Read this book. Want to know what Father thinks about anger? Read this book. When Good Men Get Angry will open your eyes and encourage you to change how you deal with anger. This is a wonderful book full of wisdom.

Binding Alert!

This is an amazing translation of the Bible. For the first time in my Christian walk, I've found a Bible translation that helps me spend consistent time in the Word because it's so enjoyable to read. My husband bought a small gift size of this Bible for me as a Christmas gift. It has very tiny print, so I ordered this Bible hoping the print would be easier to read. The print is a bit larger, but not much. That problem is solved by increasing the power of my reading glasses. The bigger concern to me is the narrowness of the inside margins. It's hard to read near the binding, and after reading for only a couple of weeks, I have pages falling out as I've attempted to open the book wide enough to read the portions near the binding. It's true that the price is right on this Bible, but I would recommend that serious readers spend a few more dollars to obtain a book that has better quality binding.

High Quality Budget/Gift Bible

For a gift bible, I was amazed of the quality of this bible. I cynically bought it for myself and not as a gift bible. I wanted an inexpensive bible that was easy to carry around for when I'm doing ministry activities and one I could mark up and not worry to much about it getting scuffed up or marked in.

My only complaints would be the words being very small. I wear glasses and it was still really small to me. The other thing is the words go to far inwards towards the binding. This makes it harder to highlight or underline verses and in some cases see all of the text without bending the bible open in a way that would eventually break the binding of the book.

Some pluses for this book is the great look. The quality leather or imitation leather cover. The high quality pages are nice and thick, which make it great for highlighting without worrying about it bleeding through.

For around ten bucks though this a great deal. It seems like a more expensive bible then it is. One of the best budget/gift bibles I have come across.

Review of FORMAT not CONTENT

Nancy Guthrie's books have ministered to my heart. This particular format challenges the reader because of the tiny font, transparent pages, and the format of the 'book'. I would not even call it a book because it is more like a notepad in format.
I returned this particular version and purchased the 2005 printed version instead and am looking forward to spending a year soaking in hope.
I understand the concept for the smaller format to be easy to carry. It just does not work for the amount of material because sacrifices need to be made in readability.
The photo shows the larger sized version (in the left) compared to this pocket-sized version and a pencil for some idea of scaling.

Unique and thoughtful gift for someone having hard times.

What a unique devotional!

First off, I have to say how cool the cover is. It is firm and glossy, and it folds out flat. I love this. It can be bothersome, especially with a book this small, when the pages keep flipping closed because of the binding being tight. This stays open to whatever page you’re reading. It fans out nicely, making it easier to read.

The pages are thin and feel like Bible pages, and with the unique layout, you hold the book vertically to read it, rather than the traditional horizontal way.

Now, on to the meat of the book.

Each devotion begins with a verse (NLV, NIV, NASB, NKJV, KJV, and more.) It contains a table of contents, an introduction, and a short section on how to use the book, then proceeds to a devotion for every day of the year. (The devotions aren’t dated—which I like.)

The main objective of this book is to help guide the reader through tough times in life—broken hearts, loss, and other hurts. It’s an honest and lifting compilation of stories, reflections, meditations, and prayers.

The book is approximately 3” x 5”, about ½” thick, and easily fits into a pocket. Makes a unique and timely gift for someone experiencing loss or difficulties in life. I give 4 stars, rather than 5, because the writing is small and may be difficult for older readers to see.

The first thing that caught my eyes was the cover of this book. I marvelous cover with a bird waiting on a branch to take flight. This is own I feel sometimes when I feel low in my life - waiting for something to help be fly higher. I know God is with me at all times but sometimes it is easy to forget that He is there and cares for me.

What should you do when life throws you curve balls or when someone close to you wounds you every time you talk to that person? Ultimately you need to turn to God and hold on to hope. Nancy Guthrie has written beautiful one page devotions that will uplift you in the morning and encourage you through the day. Not only will you have a Scripture to ponder on but Nancy will write encouraging words in your devotion. At the bottom of the page there is also a suggestion for studying a specific passage in the Bible and guide you to dig deeper in the subject covered by the devotion.

This is very meaningful in my life right now for various reasons. We are waiting for a contract to start for my husband though it also gives him the time to study a new technology in the meantime. I am grateful for this and hope he will stay motivated. At the same time I recognize the importance of being grateful as a way to not harden our hearts and be bitter at God when life isn't fair with us. I see the fruit of bitterness in the life of someone close to me and it sadden me to experience the end results of that life long bitterness. I pray sincerely that gratefulness will invade the heart of that person and that God will show His mighty presence as well as embrace that person with love like never experience before.

As for me, well I am learning more and more to trust God on a daily basis and not to worry about the future. God is in control and He knows what will come. He promised me "I will never leave you nor forsake you!" over the summer and I know that He will keep this promise.

I don't know what life is throwing at you and what are your stumbling blocks in your walk but I know one thing since I started reading this devotion I am a little more at peace every day. So if you are wounded, lost hope or have difficulty of seeing what God is doing, consider getting the One Year Book of Hope Devotional and read through it. And let God be your source of comfort. A testament to life's challenges...

This is a modern day romance between Sierra and Alex inter-twined with the story of Sierra's ancestor, Mary Katherine, and her journey in a covered wagon heading first to Oregon and ending up in California. Sierra and Alex's marriage is put to the test when Alex accepts a new job in Los Angeles, forcing Sierra to leave behind her home and family in her beloved small town. She is thrust into a fast paced world where she does not want to belong. She strikes out in anger and disappointment. Her fears and insecurities chip away at her marriage to Alex until it reaches the breaking point. Sierra is left pondering her future, while finding solace in the journal of Mary Katherine, who generations before struggled with many of the same fears and issues.
Mary Katherine's family is destroyed upon the death of her mother, her brother's betrayal and her father's inability to function after his wife's death. Mary Katherine throws caution to the wind and marries James. They struggle and work hard to create a life farming. When it is taken away, James packs up their belongings and children and they head west to Oregon, the promised land. Mary Katherine longs for home but follows her husband. What follows is a tale of hardship, love, and the will to survive.
As Sierra's life reaches a turning point she turns to God, through His love she begins mending her life. Only God knows if it will include Alex. I loved this book and recommend it to anyone. We all struggle with fears when we are pushed outside our comfort zone. With God's help, we will find peace and understanding. Check and see what the results are from Sierra's test of fire...

Surprisingly good

After reading some Christian fiction that seemed overly "preachy," I have to admit being sceptical before picking up this book. However, this book was delightful! It was weighty, meaning the author did not shrink from exploring the heavier issues of infidelity, sex, personal responsiblity, the choices we make. The relationship between Sierra and Alex was enlightening, with all its complexities and nuances, and mostly, its human-ness. This is excellent reading as nothing is "glossed over" and there are no easy answers as we watch Sierra and her husband grapple with real-world issues in their marriage. I would highly recommend this book, as it will bring up important questions in your own life to think about. I can't wait to read more of Francine Rivers.

Abby Johnson holds a B.S. in psychology from Texas A&M University and an M.A. in counseling from Sam Houston State University. She was hired by Planned Parenthood in 2005 and progressed to the position of community services director and health educator, where she served as liaison between the community and Planned Parenthood as media correspondent. Later promoted to health center director, Johnson ran both the family planning and abortion programs. In 2009 she left Planned Parenthood and joined the local Coalition for Life as a volunteer. She continues her volunteer activities and now works on projects with the national 40 Days for Life campaign. She and her husband, Doug, have a young daughter and live in Texas.
Cindy Lambert, vice president and associate publisher at Zondervan, is a veteran of the bookselling industry. Antichrist. The very word send shivers through us. And Nicolae Carpathia certainly does not disappoint as Antichrist. Nicolae is the third book in Left Behind series written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, and is preceded by book one, Left Behind, and book two, Tribulation Force.

Nicolae Carpathia becomes the focus as he continues to consolidate his power, unifying political states ("Global Community"), media ("Global Community Network," "Global Weekly"), and religions ("Enigma Babylon One World Faith") under a Nicolae-appointed supreme pontiff. Nicolae himself is grand potentate of the global community.

Our heroes, pilot Rayford Steele and journalist Buck Williams, along with the rest of the Tribulation Force, continue their struggle to survive and protect their families in the midst of global war and destruction. They have come to recognize Nicolae Carpathia to be the Antichrist prophesied in the Bible, and to them it comes as no great revelation that this man, who presented himself as a charming and benevolent leader, has been unmasked as a ruthless and cruel tyrant, manipulating people and events to serve his own ends. And his ends are undoubtedly evil.

Nicolae Who? CHRISTOPHER IS MUCH MORE CONVINCING!

This book in the Left Behind series is called Nicolae but Nicolae is harldy even in this book. Again, this entry in the series focuses almost entirely on the private lives of Rayford, Buck and friends.
When I heard about this series I had really hoped for insight into Revelation and the end times. Instead we're given endless detail about the Trib Force members and only the most elementary presentation of prophetic events.
Like many readers, I have found The Christ Clone Trilogy far more satisfying to my desire to understand the Tribulation. Instead of Left Behind's rigid repetition of scriptural description with no real-world explanation of what it means or how it could occur, The Christ Clone Trilogy gives plausible scenarios based in real science and politics, as well as staying true to scripture.
And as far as believable Antichrists, Nicolae Carpathia is a cardboard puppet compared to Christopher Goodman.

The Evil One Takes Over

I've read all but "The Indwelling", which I'll read this summer, so I've decided to review the series. If you're a voracious reader you could finish this book in a day, no matter your reading level it is an easy read. You're likely to read it quickly because you'll want to find out what is going to happen next in this apocalyptic vision of Earth's future. This book is one of the best in the series. The action and suspense are spellbinding, so it is very entertaining. The "message" and true intent of the authors is throughout the book, you either believe it or not. The book is entertainment, not a bible study course on the Book of Revelations, so take it for what it is and enjoy the ride. The "evil one" is portrayed magnificently, totally believeable and credible. The world is his oyster and the way he manages to rise to power is slightly predictable but interesting nonetheless. The "heroes" are by now starting to become more dimensional as characters and the reader will be able to identify with them as real people. Whether you agree or disagree with the premise of this book, an interpretation of the Book of Revelations, the book is still a very good piece of fiction that in fact may be based on truth? Better than # 2 and right up there with the original # 1. No matter you're opinion, you will be left thinking about how you live your life and hopefully be a better person for it.

Excellent, no matter what your perspective.

I for one read this book in only a day. What saddens me is to see the negative reviews that some have written about it. The purpose in writing this book (and the others) was not solely for entertainment or profit. These books are not written to convince people of one Rapture doctrine or another. Rather, they have the message of God's love for his people thoughout. Some reviews had wrong facts (saying such things like Amanda Steele was killed in a nuclear blast), said that the Antichrist was not a good enough villian (he isn't supposed to be one; he wins the people over and then turns nasty), and some even talk about how it is pointless to write about such things if they aren't happening now. Has it ever occured to these people that these books are chock full of Biblical references and the plan of salvation? No matter what time you think that the Rapture will occur, there are still probably going to be some of these books around. Then those who were really "left behind" may find them and glean some truth from them in an otherwise lost world. From the sounds of it though, it seems that some current readers could profit as well from a little religion.
