THIS IS JUST THE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS-Not the Book

Unfortunately the description and reviews make it look like this is the whole book but it's just the discussion questions. You will need to get the hardback book to go with it. My group just started the book and we love it. Very pertinent to today's women. Plenty of scripture references.

Great Guide

I do not have the actual book. But even though I don't have it yet I still loved the leader's guide. This is a ten week guide for a group setting where all the participants would be reading the book during the week and then getting together to discuss the book and share what they have been learning.

I love how each week is laid out.
Warm Up: This is a way to get things moving. Questions and activities to really get the conversation started.
A Word From Beth: This is usually a couple of paragraphs from the Author in which she shares with you what she hopes you are experiencing.
Digging In: This part takes sections of the book and had questions paired with it. This will really help you understand what you read and help you process it a little more with your group.
In The Light of the Word: This section gives you verses to read as a group. They always go along with what you have been reading and helps you see what the Word of God has to say about it all.
Wrap-up: This is a bit of a sum it all up section. This also has the ending prayer in it.

I love how centered this is on the Word of God. It's wonderful to see something not just full of someones opinions but to see it really focus on what the Bible has to say about it all.

A new Christmas Carol! Wonderful story!

We read The Shoe Box as a family in Christmas of 1999. This is a beautiful story with all the heart of a Charles Dickens story. We expect to read it again in 2000 and on and on...It's that kind of book. Francine Rivers is an author who is able to reach into the heart and touch lives. There is not one of her books I would not be happy to pass along to my friends. The reviewer who compared Francine's writing to mine might have meant well, but has missed the point. Each of us writes very differently and yet our goal is the same. The Shoe Box is beautiful and powerfully written. Francine Rivers is not only a sister, but a writer I admire tremendously! Read all her books then pass them along. They make a difference!

Great for reading aloud by the Christmas Tree

This is a nice little book that takes 10-15 minutes to read aloud. The story itself is about a little boy named Timmy whose mother cannot take care of him, and God does take care of him. It may bring a little tear to your eye when you read it.
I don't find the book particularly well written, but it is one of the favorite books of my 4-year-old. He would love for me to read it to him every night.
This book also contains the story of the birth of Christ from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke plus a few shorter stories and Christmas recipes.
If you are looking for a book to get your family in the Christmas spirit, this is a good one.

Along with minor updates in statistical and historical content— through spring 2006 for Worldmark, and through March 2005 (with some later notes) for Nations and Cultures— the two have undergone major changes in scope. Worldmark retains its original arrangement, devoting each volume to a continent or group of continents, plus one for the U.N., but has dropped its sixth volume, "World Leaders," completely. Reflecting enhanced coverage of each country's arts, customs, and lifestyles, the Facts On File product has added the words "and cultures" to its former title, and added several topical subsections to each of the alphabetically arranged profiles, from "Human Rights" and "Flora and Fauna" to "Etiquette" and "Personal Appearance." Comments in the more subjective categories are mostly positive or at least neutral. Individual country entries in both encyclopedias are roughly similar-opening with a fact summary and simple, easily reproducible black-and-white map, closing with a resource list, and in between summarizing physical, cultural, and historical highlights in consistent, clearly labeled sections. Worldmark's level of detail tends to be higher than that in Nations and Cultures, though the latter has livelier writing. Unlike Worldmark, however, Nations and Cultures offers a comprehensive subject index. For libraries lacking equivalent online resources or previous versions of these titles, consider the Worldmark to support country assignments, and Nations and Cultures for broader reference. Retaining the structure of past editions, volume 1 covers the United Nations, and the remaining volumes cover Africa, Americas, Asia and Oceania, and urope. A total of 194 countries are profiled, one more (for Montenegro) than in the previous edition. Each country entry begins with a picture of the flag and the national emblem (in black and white) and a digest of facts about the capital, the flag, the national anthem, the monetary unit, the system of weights and measures, national holidays, and the time relative to noon, Greenwich mean time. The digest is followed by 48 uniform sections covering topics in geography, demographics, religion, history, government, economics, and society and culture. One section is devoted to famous people, a feature students will find useful. Each entry also includes a map and a bibliography. All of the bibliographies have been updated and now include a great many titles published since 2000. All facts, figures, and other information have been checked and verified or updated as well.

Although most of this information can be found elsewhere (as we noted in our review of the very first edition), Worldmark has always gotten high marks on the "all in one place" test. Does your library still need it, now that so much country data is easily available online? We checked Worldmark against several standard free sources. Background Notes [http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn], produced by the Department of State, has similar information but with more emphasis on political conditions (including a country-by-country summary of each country's foreign relations) and less coverage of society and culture. Country Studies, sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Army and available through the Library of Congress Web site [http://lcweb2.loc.gov/frd/cs], offers a considerable amount of detail in its book-length studies but currently covers only 101 regions and even fewer in the attractive Country Profiles area of the site. The World Factbook [https://cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/bx.html], produced by the CIA, is also very detailed but not as user-friendly. Although Worldmark has some information that is unique to it (the list of holidays, for example, and the section on famous people), the three online resources have the advantages of links to other Web sites plus (especially as Worldmark ages) more current data. Whether your library continues to provide Worldmark depends largely on very practical questions such as budget, the habits of your patrons, and the availability of terminals for accessing the resources that are available online. Do your soul a favor... READ the BIBLE!

Yes, I definitely enjoyed the novels, but they ARE novels after all.
For example, expecting God to remove the 'mark of the beast' once you have it, is probably not a good idea.
If you make that final choice, we would have to assume that it is FINAL.
...and on that note,
Solely trusting to an author's interpretation of God's intent is probably not a great idea either.
Read your Bible for yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.
Your soul will thank you for it!

I've read all 13 original adult books and still wanted to see how they could possibly incorporate those 13 books into 4 Editor Editions without compromising the wonderful details of the original 13 books, but they did a fantastic job. I found myself not being able to put these down either. They explored suspense along with maintaining scripture integrity throughout these volumes just as they did with the originals. I loved them. These books seem to challenge me to reexamine my own relationship with the Lord; and any book that can make me do that in a loving way, is alright with me. Great Job Guys!

Food for thought - what if...?

These books continue the Left Behind series of novels and relate a highly imaginative story of what it might be like to live after the Rapture. What I like best are the Biblical quotes and the perceptions about human nature. Whether one believes in pre-tribulation, mid-tribulation, or post-tribulation Rapture, or not at all, this and the rest of the series is easy reading and filled with action.

Not large print at all

I liked the older edition, but my eyes started getting old. (So did the rest of me.) SO I was having trouble reading the old one and ordered the new Large Print. When it arrived, it was larger, but the print was only a point or so bigger. Not much of an improvement at all. I still have to use the bifocals etc. just as much.

This is an amazing resource to any serious student or beginner. If I used the number of words in the KJ version of the bible would it's 830,000. The NLT adds over one million more words of study helps.So, what you get is more helps than there is actual bible. So there is double value here - an excellent new translation and a library full of study aids and reasonable commentary. The typeface is only 9 or 10 pt - If you have bad eyes - no giant print version exists at this time. In my humble opinion, the NLT is the clearest, easiest to understand version I've seen. There is no perfect translation. In many cases this translation breaks some new ground with better and a more specific translation. Wonderful. In other cases, the NLT waters some good stuff down. I found that I do miss some wording and meaning from older translations but overall this is where I spend my time. The commentary/study aids are middle of the road Wheaton College type stuff. In many cases they will deliver multiple views of a subject giving you the right to chose. They don't take a particular stand which is admirable. They tend to stay away from some controversial subjects. They choose to say nothing and let the word say what it says rather than push a spin most of the time. Well worth the investment.

Great Story!

You Don't Know Me is the sixth Deep Haven novel, but the first I've read. I was able to follow along easily and thoroughly enjoyed reading it! I've read many of Susan May Warren's previous books, and I don't think I've ever been disappointed with any of them!

I found it very interesting that the main character in this book (Annalise) is a member of the Witness Security Program and how she never told her husband that in all the years of their marriage.

I loved the characters! Annalise, Nathan, Frank, and Tucker were probably my favorites, but I liked almost all of the main characters.

There was one thing I didn't like in this book. On page 156, Pastor Dan says "I have a word from the Lord for you today, church. I don't know who this is directed to, but someone needs to hear it." He then goes on to say things like, "'I love you', says the Lord. 'I see things, and I know you, and I love you. Period. I know stuff about you that you don't even think I know, and yet I love you...'" - I don't like when books say that God said something that's not in the Bible. It's one of my pet-peeves.

You Don't Know Me's story was really good and I look forward to reading more Deep Haven books in the future! I recommend it if you enjoy books with a little suspense and some romance.

An Emotional Romantic Thriller

Annalise Decker has a perfect life in a perfect little town called Deep Haven. She is a great mother and she is wonderful wife to her husband, Nathan Decker, a local real estate agent who is running for mayor.

The truth is that everyone is not perfect as we may seem to be because everyone has secrets. Annalise has one of the darkest secrets. Her real name is actually Deidre O'Reilly. Twenty years ago, she got into some trouble and became a witness to a crime. The Witness Security Program helped fake her death, relocated her to Deep Haven, and gave her a new name and a new life.

Shockingly, she learns that the criminal she helped put behind bars and is going to be paroled. Agent Frank Harrison has arrived to protect from the vengeful criminal.

I have read a few other books by Susan May Warren, but this is my first read in the Deep Haven series. The title "You Don't Know Me" sounds more like a made-for-TV movie than it does a book, so I was a little skeptical about reading this. The author has a way with words and I was instantly glued to plot of a woman that must deal with her haunting past that could tear away everything that she has worked for during the past twenty years. Overall, I enjoyed reading every chapter of "You Don't Know Me" as it is an emotional romantic thriller and I recommend it to others.

A deep book, for the deep haven series

I'll be honest. This is a "hard" book to read. It's not a "light and fluffy" novel. It follows the trend in Warren's recent works - that seem to center around older characters, facing mid-life type quandaries.

The novel is good, but it's not necessarily a "beach book" read. It will make you think and may make you have a conversation or two about the dangers of secrets.

On the scale of one to five, I give it a solid three. If you are looking for a light read, check out Warren's PJ Sugar series. However, if you are looking for a solid read, then check out this offering, the latest in the Deep Haven series.

Review from a Man's Perspective

Ok,so I will admit that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Of course, I will also admit that I've done that to all of the books by Candace Calvert. So please, don't take my "Man Card" away just yet.

Kate Callison has spent her life running, now all she wants to do is take over as permanent ER Director as Austin Grace Hospital. The hospital is under a PR nightmare with the recent disappearance of their ER Director, a couple of deaths attributed to long wait times and an anonymous blogger keeping all of this fresh in the media. Wes Tanner runs a local search and rescue team on the side. A couple of rescues brings him into contact with Kate and feelings between them begin to grow. Kate isn't sure she wants to open up to Wes with all her baggage, but her feelings keep getting in the way. Now there's a missing baby and everyone is on the lookout. Kate runs away to clear her head when things with Wes take a wrong turn. What is so bad in her past that she can't overcome? Will Wes let her run without chasing? Is the baby ever found? Yes, you're right, GO BUY THE BOOK!

Is this a "guy's book"? I will be honest and say that this is not your regular guy's book. The theme is romance, redemption and a lot of talk about feelings. I will also say, though, that I enjoyed this book. The character of Wes has such a strong faith and belief system, but even he has an "AHA!" moment in the book that most men need to read about so that they can get their own "AHA!" moment.

Best Medical Suspense EVER!

Oh. My. Word. Can Candace Calvert tell a story! Her personal experience in medical care adds great depth to the novel, but it is her faith and her heart that makes "Rescue Team" her best book ever!

I adore Kate! I just wanted to wrap my arms around her and pray over her and love her back to emotional health. What a wounded soul, and what a great character. Her past defined her present for far too long, and she was in desperate need of a miracle, of healing and of unconditional love.

Enter Wes Tanner, an amazing search and rescue guy who has a broken past of his own. It is about to collide with Kate's secret, and it's about to get messy. Can Wes hold on to his love for God, for family and for Kate long enough to see them through this valley?

And Wes's family! Adored Dylan, and his parents were so kind and loving with Kate and her dad. Her dad...he stole my heart. Then there's Lauren, who HAS to get her own story.

Throw in the mystery of the disappearance of the ER director, and you've got a story to go on the 'keeper' shelf. The book was so good that, midway through, I had to email Candace to tell her how she'd made me laugh and cry and how thrilled I was with the book.

I received an advance copy via NetGalley from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for an honest review. I'm buying this one as soon as I can get to a bookstore and reading it again. Yes, it is that good. Her best yet, and that is truly saying something.

"Rescue Team" is highly, highly recommended.

Strong Characters, good story

Kate Callison is on the run - essentially from herself. Currently she is serving as the Interim Emergency Department Director for Austin Grace ER, but feels burdened to live up to the standards her predecessor, Sunni Sprague, set. Sunni was beloved by all but disappeared and is suspected to be a victim of foul play.

Kate has her own personal history to deal with and a number of situations, both personal and professional, seem to exacerbate her stress. Wes Tanner, an engineer/search-and-rescue specialist wants to break through Kate's tough exterior, but her secret just may be the one factor he can't handle. Will forgiveness be possible?

I've enjoyed all of Candace Calvert's books and this one is no exception. I especially enjoy how they can be read independently of one another, but if you read them in order there are little "nods" to the other books or characters in them. Read them and enjoy!

Love this study Bible

Love this study Bible. The cover is very soft- feels and looks like a far more expensive leather edition. The study notes are incredibly helpful, along with the many explanations and cross references. The NLT version is so easy to read, and I find myself reading my Bible more and more, as it is so easy to understand. This is a big Bible- not one that you would probably want to carry around. But it is great to use at home. My only minor complaint would be the small type. I can read it well enough, but it is a little hard on the eyes at times. Would definitely recommend- has become my favorite Bible for daily study.

This Bible is user-friendly! As one who reads the Bible daily, I find it a delight because the print is a nice size, the pages are glare-free, and the commentary is insightful.
