Good size and good quality

Good bible! I wanted something small (but not miniscule) and this is perfect. It's about the size of a 5x7 photograph. Text is not huge, it just looks like normal-sized text like you might see in a newspaper. There's little to no commentary and just a few maps and extras. I wanted a portable bible that I could carry around in my backpack--not a bulky study bible--and this is perfect for that. It does have thumb-indexed pages for the different books of the bible, too. The thumb index doesn't have a thumb-spot for each book, but does them in groups of three. For example, the first thumb-spot is for "GEN EXO LEV".

Beautiful Looking, Soft Feeling, Readable, Quality Bible

Beautiful looking, soft feeling, readable, quality Bible... The "Leather-like" cover is a nice thick, padded cover with a great feel and good looks that almost smells like leather... This is my second purchase of this Bible... After about 4 yr, the first one's cover deteriorated.. it never had a problem until after I checked it in a bag for checked luggage on a flight.. I don't know if temperature or humidity or pressure or vibration or what could have effected it, but it happened while on that plane, The damage was there when I took it out of the bag... It now looks so bad I had to order another... I will not check it in my luggage again... I teetered between a 4 and 5 star rating because of the print... There is nothing "Large Print" about this 8.75 font... 8.75 should be the smallest allowable by law (if not 9) as the print size for anything intended to be read... 8.75 - 9 should be called "Small Print". 10-12 could be called "Reg. Print" and 13 and up could be called "Large Print"... However, I use my readers to read my 13 Font full size Bible, so it really doesn't matter that I would use my readers to read this smaller print... It is quite readable with readers.. I would call it small, but not too small... I will use my 13 pt. Bible for my 'long reads', but this Bible will be fine for my picking up and 'brief reads'... The red print is solid and bright and easy to read... This Bible came with thumb indexes... I looked for the one without in order to save some money, but couldn't find it and went ahead and ordered this one.. The cutouts are smaller than the title abbreviations and you cannot see the titles... As I am looking at the indexes for say "Ephesians", all I see is a 'tab' with B,S,T... when I open up to the tab I see HEB, JAS, and PET... If one knows the books a little, you can then back up a couple tabs and find the EPH... I suppose it is better than no tabs, but I would not say to pay extra for it... I am one that likes highlighting in my Bible... I find the small sharpie, pen like markers with a little chisel tip works well.. The tip is small enough you can highlight the small print and the smaller tip doesn't put out as much ink so it doesn't bleed through the page... You can barely see a little yellow on the other side, but I think it is from 'showing' through rather than bleeding through.. either way, it does not look bad on the back side... (Now I have the task of transferring all my highlights from the old Bible to the new...) The Bible has two reference pages in the back with page numbers to locate Bible Stories or notable incidents (Lords Prayer, Lions Den, etc..) and it has a fairly complete concordance and 6 colored maps at the back (with tabs to locate them which is nice)... The gold guilding on the page edges is a very solid, bright gold, real nice looking... and there is a marker ribbon... I decided I pretty much liked everything about this Bible and therefore went with the 5 star... As for the NLT version...excellent. I have a NAS Study Bible for closer translation and I have a little KJV in case I want to read the thee's and thou's.... I like the KJV for some of the quotable scrips as they sometimes just sound cooler... (i.e. Judge not LEST YE be judged..) NLT reads just as smooth as a regular book, very easy to follow, though it is NOT a paraphrase or distortion from the original meaning, just a better choice of words and put in the modern order we speak them... I often have to look to the NLT to understand what the NAS or KJV are trying to say... I really enjoy the NLT for long reads... Overall, the Bible is great and the NLT translation is very understandable, and the print IS big enough to read with readers, so,........ a beautiful looking, soft feeling, readable, quality, handy size Bible...

Compact Edition Bible Large TuTone
I know this because my wife has this previous version also, and the two Bibles look identical to me in size, leatherlike covers, number of pages, etc. My wife really loved her Bible for its portability and readability so I got her this new reprint version as a backup. The leatherlike covers feel very soft and nice without feeling cheap or tacky and considering the compact size of the Bible, the font size, in my opinion, was not compromised.
I paid $34 for the Bible a few days ago and noticed that the price went down even more! The local bookstores sell this Bible for $49.99 so I think that you can't beat $29 for a Bible this great!
