FRANCIS WILSON, an emeritus professor at the University of Cape Town, taught in the School of Economics for 40 years. He has written widely on the South African political economy, founded the South African Labour & Development Research Unit and directed the Second Carnegie Inquiry into Poverty and Development. He was Chairperson of the Council of the University of Fort Hare and chaired South Africa's National Water Advisory Council.

The devotion that follows ties to the verse and the theme for the day, usually with a story from either family or athletic life. Each day concludes with an Uncommon Key - a brief take away or action point based on the day's reading.

I found the devotions to be straightforward and easy to read. The devotional is geared toward men (and I think that's great!) but I found the readings to be quite applicable to me as a mom as well.

While I like the book, I like the purpose behind the book even more. Coach Dungy is challenging men - and women - to live Uncommon lives and the key to beginning that process is to spend time with God. EVERY DAY.

A Great Tool!

I have to admit, before I received this book I had no idea who Tony Dungy was! Come to find out, he is a Super Bowl - winning coach! [Even I know what the Super Bowl is!]

Not being sports minded, however, I was a bit trepidatious at reviewing this book. I mean, what was this coach going to tell me about life's daily challenges! I even said so to Texican, my dh, who usually reads everything I do, but after I have reviewed it.

"Honey, give it a chance!" he coaxed me.

"Why don't you read it then?" I asked. I thought perhaps he could read it, give me his thoughts on it, and then I could simply re-write those thoughts as my own review. After all, that would be just as good, right?

"Babe, that wouldn't be very honest," he warned.

So, I sat down one evening, wrapped in my favorite afghan, with a cup of warm cocoa, and opened the book. 'I'll just give it a good skimming, and then write the review from that,' I promised myself.

Five and a half hours later, I finished the last page and sat there stunned that I had read a daily devotional completely through without even taking a break.

Yes.... Tony Dungy is that good!

Super Bowl-winning coach? Well, I can't say anything about that, except that if this man coaches football anywhere near as excellent as he can coach Christians into an 'Uncommon' walk in this life, there's no wonder his team has won such an honor!

I've used daily devotional's before, mostly as a guide when I was feeling lazy about coordinating my personal Bible study time. But this book is something that will lead you along paths of walking a different life than the world about you. An Uncommon Life!. This is one devotional that will be used again, and again, and again!

I highly recommend The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge to readers of all ages! There are daily scriptures, followed by Coach Dungy's words of encouragement, and closing each day with an Uncommon Key, to help you walk each day in an Uncommon way!

One passenger still on the plane is reporter Buck Williams, whose recent experiences and witnessing of some strange events in Israel have led him to rethink his own lack of religious faith. As word comes that the entire world is suffering from disappearances, as well as horrifying natural disasters, Steele and Williams soon realize they, and the rest of the world, are experiencing the "Rapture of the Saints." it may seem rather odd that the Kindle progress bar will say something like 18% after you finish the whole first book

This kindle book is called "The Left Behind Collection", but it isn't a collection of 12 separate e-books. It is one very long book file that includes all 12 titles of the series from Left Behind through Glorious Appearing. (It does not include Kingdom Come, which is considered a "sequel".)

To be clear, if you buy this you are getting one huge book file that contains all 12 titles, not 12 individual book files.

So, it may seem rather odd that the Kindle progress bar will say something like 18% after you finish the whole first book. And, you can't chuck the prior books off your Kindle (or loan them out) as you move on, since it is all one file.

Each title and every chapter in each title are marked and "go to"-able.

There aren't any extras like whispersync for voice or xray.

It says the title is lendable, but it can't be broken into parts, so whoever you lend it to will have to read all 12 books in 14 days.

Still, if you've never read the books, or just want to read them again, this is an excellent value.

Great set of Books

I wanted to write a review on the entire left behind series rather then for each book individually, so here goes. I think this series has been one of the most enjoyable reads of my life. Whether you are a believer of not you can easily find this book to be an enjoyable read.

The story basically starts off with all of God's true believers being removed from our planet in one fell swoop! Poof...GONE! The rest learn that they are Left Behind to deal with the 7 years of tribulation while the Anti-christ tries to take over.

Over the course of these books the storyline increases quickly and progresses into a book that really makes you think and question what could happen...and if you are not a believer, it's simply a great work of fiction!

I loved this series, the books are exciting and are very quick reads. Pick up the first one, i'll bet you can't put them down after that!

Purchase these sets because you will have to finsih one book and begin reading the next right away!

My Take on End-Times Books

With all the end-times novels on the market it's probably useful to see a comparison from someone who has read most of them. So here's my take on the matter.
LEFT BEHIND is an action adventure written primarily for Christians with a huge cross-over into the secular market. It sticks very closely to scripture and to prophecy of the time during the Tribulation. There is never any doubt of the authors' position and which characters are good and which are bad. Beyond that, there's been so much said about Left Behind that probably every possible opinion has been expressed. Some love it. Some hate it. Personally, I like the Left Behind series a lot.
THE LAST DAY makes no attempt at all to adhere to scriptural prophecy. It is, in fact, less accurate scripturally than The Omen movies or End of Days. If you want a fun read and don't care whether the story has any connection to scripture, it's probably okay.
THE CHRIST CLONE TRILOGY, my definite favorite among the list, is written for a secular audience with a big cross-over into the Christian market. Through most of the 3 books you don't know what the author's position is or which (if any) of the characters speak for him. Only in the last book do you find out he is a Christian and that he is using his story telling ability to reach the lost with the Gospel and the danger that faces them if they do not accept it.
WE ALL FALL DOWN is a story of a man forced to make decisions about himself and God when faced by undeniable evidence (living through the Tribulation) that the Bible is true. It's an interesting exploration in character but the author's development of the events of the Tribulation is muddled and very thin. The thing most Christians object to about We All Fall Down is the non-stop use of extreme profanity by the main character. It was hard for me to get past all the f-words, and I certainly would not say I enjoyed it, still it made me think.

Mebrahtom “Meb” Keflezighi and his family came to the United States after fleeing their native country of Eritrea to escape a violent war with Ethiopia. His unexpected athletic and academic successes earned him a full scholarship to UCLA, where he won four NCAA titles in one year and earned his BA in communication studies with a specialization in business. Meb is an Olympic silver medalist (Athens 2004) and a three-time national champion in cross country running (2001, 2002, and 2009). He came back from an injury to win the 2009 New York City Marathon, setting a personal best time of 2:09:15. Meb became a U.S. citizen in 1998. He lives in Mammoth Lakes, California, with his wife, Yordanos, and their three daughters, Sara, Fiyori, and Yohana.
Dick Patrick has worked as a sports reporter and editor at newspapers for 34 years (including more than 24 at USA Today). He has covered Olympic Games, Final Fours, track and field world championships, world cross country championships, and more than 60 major marathons. He has won several Associated Press awards as well as awards from the National Distance Running Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. He recently was named the first winner of the George Hirsch Media Award, presented by the New York Road Runners for contributions to distance running. He lives in Vienna, Virginia, with his wife, Jody, and two children, Eamonn and Shea. This is his first book.

From very humble beginnings, Meb relies heavily upon his Christian faith and belief in the American Dream. Coming from a war-torn country where food is scarce and luxury includes owning your own skinny cow, Meb recognized the positives in life early on. His father, willing to sacrifice his own safety and well-being, traversed the continent to reach Sudan then emigrated to Italy. At this point the very large family joined him. Meb recalls the joyful reunion in detail.

Two years later, the family immigrated to the United States. Through hard work and positive relationships, Meb learned to love running. The book details his journey from a small country on the African continent to his Olympic showing and winning the New York Marathon. Following each chapter, the reader is provided with "Runner's Tip" and "Overcomer's Tip." Overcomer's tips are not only applicable to running but succeeding in other endeavors.

Inspiring and enjoyable read. I was personally so inspired that I took my youngest son to the park and walked around it for 15 minutes. Wahoo!

Run to Overcome, by Meb Keflezighi with Dick Patrick is considered “the inspiring story of an American champion’s long-distance quest to achieve a big dream.” In the book, Meb (short for Mebrahtom) shares his life story…so far.

Even though he was born in Eritrea, the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia encouraged his family to leave Africa. They moved to Italy for a short time, and then to the United States in search of the American dream. On page four, Meb said that "...especially an immigrant like me who, while continuing to love my native country, is so grateful for the privilege of U.S. citizenship."

On page three, Meb remembers, “My running journey began with a timed mile in my seventh grade phys ed class” in the United States. In Run to Overcome, Meb shares his personal life, as well as his running accomplishments and aspirations. Two highlights include when he earned the silver medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, and when he won the 2009 New York City Marathon. Even though Meb runs for the United States, he still continues to honor his birthplace, Eritrea.

As a member of the Eritrean Orthodox Church, Meb respects the church’s values and implements them in his personal life, which correlates to his professional running career. According to page 224, “Whatever you do, then give it your best. Persevere in overcoming obstacles. When you do you’ll be running to win.”

This book is ideal for runners, even former or future runners. At the end of every chapter, there are two tips based on that chapter: Runner’s Tip and Overcomer’s Tip, which primarily focuses on lifestyle values. Throughout the book, there are quotes from Meb’s family, friends, coaches, and fellow runners. Also, eight pages of full-color photos and chapter discussion questions are included. Run to Overcome shares a professional runner’s inspiring and interesting story.
