Great book on grace!

Music has long been a vital part of my life. I was just telling my girls earlier today that at one time you could ask me for the artist or title of any song on Christian radio and I could probably tell you. For some I might even be able to tell you what album the song is on and sometimes even which side of cassette. I owned around 500 cassettes at one time.
Since I've been an adult and busy with life and all being a Momma entails, I don't have time to listen like I once did. Also, I'll admit it's just noise pollution to me. Sometimes Momma needs quiet. My husband though is different. He lives Christian music, he plays it frequently. Of course he does, it's his job as the music dictator...errr director and Program Director of our local Christian radio station.
In his job he is very familiar with Jeremy Camp's music. He knows Jeremy is not the son of Steve, which I thought when I first heard his name. Since I am not as into the Christian music scene anymore, I wasn't all that familiar with Jeremy's music, much less so his story.
He wrote a book for people like me. It is entitled I still Believe, A Memoir. I find it a little funny that a man younger than I am is writing a memoir. But I am so thankful he did! His story is one of sin, failure, and a great big God. It's the story of gain, of loss, of great gain. It's a story of Grace, redemption and forgiveness. He very easily could have called the book, "Grace Restored".
If you've ever wondered about the story behind some of Jeremy Camp's songs, get this book. He shares the circumstances surrounding some of his songs. All of the them were written after a time of great interaction with the Savior.
Jeremy Camp is more than a great voice, more than a pretty face. He is a child of God. His greatest desire is not for wealth and fame of Jeremy Camp but of God. He desires to be used and he is greatly used.
If you want to be challenged in your walk with Jesus, read this book. If you want to see if God can take something painful and use it for Him and His glory, read this book.

I Still Believe by Jeremy Camp with David Thomas
Those who listen to Christian music on the radio will know the name of Jeremy Camp, Christian singer and songwriter. His memoir, I Still Believe tells the story of Jeremy's ascendance to the stage of singing and songwriting but more importantly, his struggle in dealing with his wife's death from cancer. Camp writes with a sense of lingering pain and deep struggle as he sought to come back from the devastation of Melissa's death. Pick up your guitar, a voice he attributed as God telling him to get back into doing what you love was part of what it took for Jeremy to regain his strength.
What I found compelling in the book was how Jeremy continually used the story of Melissa, his love for her and her terrible death to bring hope and healing to others. Melissa's battle with cancer gave Jeremy an opportunity to sink even further into the pit of despair, but thankfully Jeremy was able to open his eyes to the opportunity God was giving him to share his story with others. What might be even more courageous is his present wife Adrienne's insistence that he keep sharing his story of Melissa on stage for the benefit of others. You can imagine that this kind of thing would be tough for her. The story of Jeremy and Adrienne, how they met on the road, and their kindred fervor for the Lord was also amazing too.
This memoir provides a very personal and moving story of Jeremy Camp, growing up with a mom and a dad who loved Jesus Christ with a powerful devotion but who were not without struggle themselves. Camp tells the stories in his book about the feelings of embarrassment over the cars they would be pick him up in and the life they lived. Yet, the message through all of this was their mountainous faith that God would provide for their needs. Jeremy's parents were part of the support system that helped him through Melissa's death and his marriage to Adrienne later on.
I enjoyed this book as a window into the soul of someone who has gone through hell and back with their faith in Christ. Rather than toss hope by the wayside, Jeremy has come to grips with his suffering by holding out the hope of Christ for others in similar life situations. I hope this book gives a dose of encouragement and grace to others seeking to find rest from the storms.

Honest and thought-provoking story~

I honestly had not heard this story prior to reading the book and although it was heartbreaking in one sense, it was encouraging in another. Born January 12, 1978, Jeremy Camp is a well-known Christian music artist with several popular songs under his belt. Growing up in a Christian family, Jeremy personally witnessed God's grace as a child through his parents' faith during times of intense financial poverty. His father played guitar and often led worship at church, encouraging Jeremy as a young teen to learn to play the guitar.
Without re-writing his story here, the book delves deeply into his struggles as a teen, his sense of God's hand on his life in college and on his relationship with his first wife Melissa. While on their honeymoon in October 2000, Melissa realized her fight with ovarian cancer might not be over and she succumbed in only a little over three months. Around her hospital bed immediately after she passed away, Jeremy's family along with Melissa's family began to praise God for the fact that He is good even in the midst of devastating circumstances, and although crushed, Jeremy joined in the praise. Thus began a long time of grief and healing for Jeremy as he learned to trust his Father in heaven with everything and, more importantly, everyone. Now married for the second time (December 2003), Jeremy tours and shares his story along with his music. More often than not, his wife and three children accompany him. Expect to need tissues as you read his story but beyond even that, expect your faith to be challenged.
