Amazing Bible!

I have the NLT Parallel Study Bible: Tutone (Brown/Tan). This bible is surprisely not 'big' but it is thick. Size about 9.5'-6.8'-2'. The bible text is in single column format. Print of the bible text is dark and bold. This bible contains notes from nlt study bible and nlt life application study bible. The only maps in the bible are those found at the back of the bible. The introductions of the books of the bible are mostly taken from nlt study bible. The Reference Helps of this study bible include Dictionary and index for Hebrew and Greek word studies, Subject index and NLT dictionary/concordance. It has only 1 brown ribbon marker. It is great having two study bible notes side by side.

great Bible translation

great Bible translation. I purchased the NLT translation and really appreciate the ease of understanding God's word. I still use other translations for a better understanding when studying certain scripture. The best part of this Bible is the of the "parallel" commentary. It offers a truncated commentary (as opposed to the full commentary offered in the non-parallel version ~ my wife has this non-parallel Bible). So it does leave out certain explanations in the replacement of life application use.
I have taken a hermeneutics class and we use the simple bible study method at church, this process simplifies the full exegetical process into; Context, Summary, Theology, and Anthropology. This all being said, I believe this Bible offers a simple commentary (Summary) and life application (Anthropology) for the reader. It is up to me to dive deeper in these areas as well as understand context and who God is.
If you want to get "deep" meaning and you can't find it in Scripture itself, you will need to purchase full commentary books. William Barclay offers a great New Testament commentary series. I don't think you find a single source to dive "deep."
Another good thing about this bible is that it offers a great explanation about the different translations and the processes used where they arrived at these different versions. It covers the spelling of proper names, the rendering of divine names, textual footnotes, and cross references. Just before the OT, it offers the context, the Canon of the OT, interpreting the OT, meaning and message, and introduces the Pentateuch. Just before the NT, it offers the setting and background, the story of the NT, the Canon of the NT, interpreting the NT, the meaning and message, and introduction to the four Gospels (setting, four gospels, summary, authorship, composition and sources, historical reliability, interpretation, meaning and message). It also offers the historical background of the Life of Jesus.
Probably my favorite part of this bible is found in the gospels. This bible offers a section called, "The NLT Harmony of the Four Gospels." This outlines where the gospels share similarities in stories and topics. Likewise, throughout the books, chapters and verses, it offers the other gospel writers location of a related story (book, chapter, and verses). This allows the student to read all accounts of the story of Christ and how they each see His deity, person, and our identity in Him.
This may sound silly, the only thing I wish the Bible had was red letters for the words that Christ spoke. The other perceived issue is the size (which is silly to say I like all the content, but it's too thick). I still carry it to church and bible study, so it isn't too bad.

TWO for ONE!

Not only is this a beautiful looking Bible, well-made, and easy to read BUT it is literally jam packed with notes and helps to add to the pleasure of your Bible reading and/or study. I am in the middle of an inductive study on the book of Revelation (Kay Arthur's Precept Ministries type). After working through the workbook, it is such a blessing to read through the many notes, word studies, and other helpful intformation. My understanding, the amount of insights and "WOW!" momments are amazing. This has rapidly become my favorite study Bible. It is a little hefty to carry all the time but when I am doing my devotions, my deep study in the Word, or trying to figure out a challenging passage, THIS is the Bible I will go to first.
