A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet: Southern Stories of Faith, Family, and Fifteen Pounds of Bacon, by Sophie Hudson

There's nothing quite like family--and some people would say that there's nothing better. But in a world where we sometimes know more about the Kardashians than we do about the people sleeping right down the hall, it's easy to forget that walking through life with our family offers all sorts of joy wrapped up in the seemingly mundane. There's even a little bit of sacred sitting smack-dab in the middle of the ordinary. And since time's-a-wastin', we need to be careful that we don't take our people--and their stories--for granted.
Whether it's a marathon bacon-frying session, a road trip gone hysterically wrong, or a mother-in-law who makes every trip to the grocery store an adventure, author Sophie Hudson reminds us how important it is to slow down and treasure the day-to-day encounters with the people we love the most.

Written in the same witty style as Sophie's BooMama blog, A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet is a cheerful, funny, and tender account of Sophie's very Southern family. It's a look into the real lives of real people--and a real, loving God right in the middle of it all.

From the Back Cover
Here’s the Thing: Family is worth celebrating.
And since I’m Southern, I would almost always advise that the celebrating should involve a table where both the fried chicken and the laughter are abundant.

But as wonderful as family life can be, it can also be complicated. Family can get under your skin like nobody’s business.

No matter what, though, I love my people to pieces. I imagine you feel the same way about your family. And while food may be what brings us to the table when we get together, it’s the people who provide the real nourishment. As we join hands and bow heads and break bread, God faithfully teaches us deep, lasting lessons about loyalty. About love. About Him.

This book is a collection of some of my favorite family stories. I’m just as tickled as I can be to share them with you.

And I hope you’ll feel right at home.

Absolutely Delightful!
By Natasha J. Parker
I've read Sophie's blog for the past four years or so and she often makes me laugh and her new book is no exception. These stories about her family will make you laugh until tears are streaming down your face. There are also moments in the book that will make you cry. Sophie has such a knack for storytelling and when reading these stories I felt like I was sitting right beside her listening to her tell them and at other times, I felt like I was riding along in the car with her family to pick up a bucket of fried chicken. Sophie ties in messages of faith through her storytelling which make the book that much more meaningful. Faith and Family are important to us Southerners! The end of the book contains some really great southern recipes which I hope to try out soon. If you are a fan of the Boo Mama blog, then you will most definitely be a fan of this delightful book.

A Hilarious Celebration of Southern Families
By The Hill Hangout
A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet is a hilarious and touching and sentimental and - did I say HILARIOUS? - account of life in a southern family. It celebrates all that is good and right about living below the Mason-Dixon line. In the south, we believe in fun, family, food, and FAITH. The stories Sophie Hudson tells about her family and friends in the town of Myrtlewood could be true of life in most any southern town, which makes her writing so relatable. With every story she told, I thought, "My family does the SAME THING!" She will make you howl with laughter and then spin you right into Truth so fast you never saw it coming. But you'll be nodding your head in agreement just the same. She's a gem of a writer, and I hope this is the first of MANY books to come!
