An AMAZING story!

I always enjoy reading Christian biographies - I am interested in other believers personal stories - so I was excited when I saw undaunted available for review. AND this one peaked my interest a little more than most because it mentioned overcoming a difficult childhood - something I am all too familiar with.
I sat down this afternoon after church to "check it out"...and ended up putting it down only momentarily to eat supper with the family...then immediately picked it back up again. I finished it tonight. I LOVED THIS BOOK and cannot wait to see the movie (I believe is soon to be coming). This book is not for the faint of heart - it is not a rosy picture painted of his childhood (although there isn't an extensive amount of detail either). This book is the story of well-known evangelist and author Josh McDowell and it tells his story vividly - nothing hidden. The candid way things - FEELINGS - are shared is riveting and intense...and in my case, some hit a little too close to home. However, it is really neat to read his story to see how things in his life unfolded and how the Lord worked it out for him to overcome his past and become an amazing man for Christ!
It never ceases to amaze me -- what some people have lived through / overcome in their lives. Josh McDowell, from his story, is an AMAZING man of Christ. Not one who simply got saved and then used it as "fire insurance" for the rest of his life...but a man who followed Christ's leading and became someone who saves many others. What an inspirational story! (I just want to go give him a big hug!)
My thoughts...buy the book - enjoy it - and grow (in Christ) from it.

A Must for your Reading List

I am not usually a big fan of non-fiction work but when I saw that Josh McDowell was writing his auto-biography, I knew this was one I needed to read. Growing up in the church, I was well aware that Josh McDowell's other best-selling books, More than a Carpenter and Evidence that Demands a Verdict were some of the go-to suggestions for seekers.
In Undaunted (written with Cristobal Krusen), McDowell shares a lot about his life that those who have not heard him speak in person may have been unaware of. Three chapters into this book and I was appalled and horrified by the childhood this man of faith had. With a drunken father, a family that was not close and sexual abuse from a worker, McDowell felt nothing but bitterness toward God before he was a teenager.
You can see God's leading in McDowell's life throughout the book. From getting out of the Air Force early to the suggestion of a Christian classmate at a Community college that he prove that Christ did not raise from the grave on the third day, we see McDowell's path to being saved.
Thoroughly engaging and a quick read, Undaunted is a book I highly recommend.

A Raw Look at God's Grace

I've read and heard Josh McDowell all my life. But I've never heard his life story or even thought about what events shaped his life. He has just always been one of the trusted voices in Christian Living. Too often, we take for granted that someone who lives in the public eye and is a recognized and respected leader has always been in that place of life. But it takes a book like this to help us understand the events of life that shaped and helped mold the leader we see today.
Josh McDowell's life was not idealic. There was little love, less God and even less stability in young Josh's life. I was saddened to read the early events in his life and the hurtful experiences that shaped his life. Undaunted is an amazing story of how God can change a person's life and bring them through horrible experiences to a place of hope.
Josh McDowell is a leading writer and speaker in the Christian world. But he has not always been a devout Christian or even a lukewarm believer. It took many years of searching for the truth for him to come to believe that God is indeed who He says He is.
