Perfect Reading Bible

I have looked for a quality edition of the New Living Translation with the 2007 updates. As an aside, I love the New Living Translation, but I really am not impressed with Tyndale. I had purchased a 2004 second edition of the New Living Translation last year figuring that by 2010 there would no longer be any editions of the New Living Translation on the market that didn't have the most up-to-date text. I was wrong. Furthermore, my edition had a typo in Revelation 20:2 so that it read "cWhains" instead of "chains." When I contacted Tyndale and asked for a replacement, they said that version was out of print and didn't offer me anything in its place. I then purchased the Tyndale Select that was released on January 3, 2011 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1414349394). Again, I figured since it was released on January 3, 2011, that it would contain the most up-to-date text. It didn't. Rather, it was a mix of the 2004 and 2007 editions. When I called Tyndale, they weren't even aware of the problem. I returned the Bible. (Tyndale does not make it clear which of their Bibles have the most up-to-date text.) I thought about buying the Pitt Minion edition but the text just seemed too small. So I went to a local bookstore and bought this edition that I am reviewing. It was perfect except when I got home I noticed that the ribbon was actually two pieces of ribbon that were carelessly glued together, leaving glue on the pages and being easily separated. I went to another local bookstore and got the same edition without any flaws.
I compared this edition to many of the other compact and slimline editions. This edition is the perfect combination of text size, paper opacity, and readable font. The font is 8.75 Lucerna, and it is very easy to read. I love the font, and I don't recall seeing this font in other Bibles. It is a beautiful and easy to read font. The text is in two columns and is very clear. There is significantly less bleed through than other slimline and compact Bibles put out by Tyndale, and the leatherlike cover is beautiful and soft to the touch. The text itself does not have any cross-references. I see that as a plus because I like to read the text of the Bible with minimal visual distractions. If you want cross-references, there are plenty of Study Bibles that have them. If you just want a Bible to read, the cross-references are a visual distraction in my opinion. The only thing besides the text are the section headings and textual footnotes that are a standard part of the New Living Translation text. The Bible lays open flat and the text is not too close to the gutters, so that it is easy to read. The size is a perfect size to hold in your hands to read or to take with you. Not too big and not too small. The index tabs are a nice added feature. The ribbon is long enough that you don't have to pull it along the bottom of the Bible too much to get to where you left off.
I really can't think of anything that I don't LOVE about this Bible and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a reader's version of the New Living Translation that includes the 2007 textual updates.

Compact Edition Bible NLT

I'm an avid reader of the Bible, and I must say this is my favorite version. It's a perfect size for reading at home or taking along with you. Its larger print is very clear and easy to read. The thumb tabs are helpful in locating those hard-to-find books. The red letter edition is great for differentiating Christ's words from the other text. The cover is imitation leather, but it has a nice, soft feel and is excellent quality. The New Living Translation is easy to understand in today's English language. I checked several Christian and secular book stores and other online stores, and the price on this site was the best.

Incredibly Happy

I was looking to give "myself" a bible for a long time. It needed to have everything I was looking for. Light weight, attractive, easy reading and the large print was a definite plus. After much searching, I found this bible and have not been able to put it down since. The features it offers are more than I ever expected. I reccommended this bible to friends who have also purchased. I am extremely happy with my life time investment!
