For Those Interested In What Has Been Written About Heaven

I want to know everything the scriptures say about Heaven, the new earth, and life after death. I am also interested in what certain scholars have to say on these topics, such as those included in Eternal Perspectives: A Collection of Quotations on Heaven, The New Earth, and Life After Death---From Augustine, Aquinas, Calvin, Wesley, Spurgeon, Lewis, and many more.
Since this is a large book, I originally started out going from A-Z, page one, through the book. Then I got sidetracked with some specific topics that I wanted to check out. Finally I came up with a system that worked for me. I read the topics that were most relevant to me at the moment, marking them off as 'Completed' in the Table of Contents. It's amazing that there is always a topic that is more interesting than the others. My most pressing interest changes from day to day. Fortunately for us, the Table of Contents has broken it down in easier-to-digest bites so we can go directly to where we need to go when we need to go there.
We also can go to the index and find some short but insightful quotes from Billy Graham or C. S. Lewis, for example. We can do the same with numerous other pastors, evangelists, and scholars. There are quotes from people I've known and read about for years, from some I've just recently been learning about, and some who are new to me. I'm pretty sure I will want to read more from some of these people. The book has given the references to make that easy for us to do. There are gems from Dwight L. Moody, Jonathan Edwards, lots from Randy Alcorn, and introducing each topic we have relevant scriptures. This is an amazing resource for those of us who look forward to being there with our loved ones. In fact, I often wonder what they are doing---right now---, not just when I'm having a stressful day, paying taxes, or dealing with someone or something unpleasant, but also on those gorgeous days when I think how magnificent it must be to be in God's presence. If He created this much beauty here on earth, how much more wonderful will it be when when everything (and everyone) is as glorious as God designed us to be for eternity. I also have so many questions. While not even the Bible reveals all the answers, there is so much here in this new book to read and think about.

Everything I needed to know about Heaven, so now I look forward to going there.

Randy Alcorn, an expert in the study of heaven, has done a great job collecting, cataloguing, and compiling quotations about heaven. He draws upon authors and scholars who have written on the subject since ancient times. He did use some of his own quotations but did it appropriately so that it did not seem self-serving. It is a reference book that should be available to families who discuss death and dying, eternity and heaven.

The Big Book of Heavenly Quotes

This is the big book (650+ pages) of quotations about Heaven, the resurrection, New Jerusalem and New Earth. I was surprised to find a section for Hell as well. So I guess Mr. Alcorn decided to cover both sides. Each section starts with 6-12 verses from the Bible on the subject, then pages of quotes that cover (not in any order I've seen) writers from the Early Church Fathers all the way to the present, then a dozen or so quotes from Mr. Alcorn's books. {Surely you didn't think he would not quote himself?} It is surprising to one extent, that everybody agrees over 2.000 years of the church. Now if only I could get the local churches to agree about anything.
