A Remarkable Resource

Tyndale's Chronological Life Application Study Bible NLT is a remarkable resource. There was quite a bit of buzz about it near launch date (Drew Brees and Patricia Heaton, among others, tweeted about it) but this product more than lives up to its great advanced billing. Far from a Bible scholar, I think the think that struck me most was the Complete Biblical Timeline that's included in the Bible. To be able to see visually that Stonehenge was erected in England about the time that Jacob and Esau were born (and many other similar parallels) put the entire Bible in a completely different context for me. Another really impressive takeaway is the Events in the Life of Christ Section. In this section, the the Gospel accounts are divided into 250 events. The title of each event is identical to the tile found in the Bible text. You can then use the chart to see what accounts appear in all four Gospels, and which might only be told through one of the Gospels. I can't even imagine the amount of work that went in to producing this wonderful Bible.

Study the Bible In Chronilogical Order

The Bible is a collection of books written by multiple authors writing over 3000 years. The Chronological Life Application Bible takes the various tools that have been available since 1988 and rework them into a set of tools that are presented in chronological order. To assist those of us familiar with the traditional order of presenting Bible books, there are indexes to locate any desired material. The book has been reset with color throughout - maps, charts, sidebars, have all been redone in color. A running timeline, located across the top of the book, keeps the reader in touch with the historical setting in which the current book is set.
Though application is still a key component of the notes, additional notes have been developed to assist the reader in understanding the historical and cultural setting of the Biblical text are also included. In addition to the master timeline mentioned earlier, a number of other timelines related to specific books or characters have been included in the book.
The Chronological Life Application Bible is among my top three study Bibles. The other two are the ESV Study Bible and the HCSB Study Bible. I have others, but these three are being kept within easy reach - to be used along with more detailed reference works.

The BEST of the BEST if you have true passion for context!

I am close to completing my 3rd time through this chronological Bible. I have read all of the chronological Bibles that have been published over the last 24 years. This is the one for those who have the extra 7-10 minutes a day to expand your frame of reference dramatically. I spend more like 30-40 minutes a day to read some of the history and context twice. I gave it to many people as gifts if they would read it through. They all rate it at the top of the food chain if they are in the ministry or have read through quickly several times. You will not want to read this through too quickly. It is far too rich of an expanded, yet good on the summary context of history & culture. They also clarify the dates on virtually everything. They also give the alternate possible dates when the dates are not so clear. There is a date chronological box when there is change of time periods.
If you have not read through CHRONOLOGICALLY, then you are in for one of the more exciting reading experience of your life. It will be hard to go back. I read through the normal Non-Chronological Bible 10-11 times first before I found the chronological world. There is no real comparison on how much more understanding you get. If only more ministers would try this, they might have an automatic flow of history much earlier in their teaching & ministry.
I also have read the F. Lagard Smith, Chronological Bible, It is also very good, it is a quicker read for the first or second time Chronological reading experience. I have read that through 16 to 18 times & it is a great start if you only have more like 15-20 minutes a day. At least you can get through it much faster. Then progress to this Bible, after you make it through a time or two. I have been getting people to read through the Bible every year for over 38 years and would not trade it for any amount of money, honor, or habit to establish as a daily lifestyle. G. R.
